S/Sgt Herbert F. Aland was a graduate of Connelly Trade School and worked at Kaufmann's fabrication of textile products before he enlisted in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania on 24 October 1941. He had won the Bronze Star earlier in the fighting in Europe.
