S/Sgt John E. Fry attended high school for 1 year and was a shipping and receiving clerk before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 19 May 1941.He was killed in the German counterattack conducted by the 11th Panzer Grenadiers of the 11th Panzer Division through the Mortagne Forest and Hill 484 to the west of Grandvillers.
