Pvt Martin J. Murray enlisted in Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 10 February 1942 and was sent overseas in January 1944.He was awarded the Purple Heart for the first time for wounds sustained at Anzio beachhead on 2 May 1944. After recovering for nearly a month in a military hospital, he returned to his unit.
