Pfc William A. Horsley graduated from Connersville High School in 1938 and was employed at Russell Murphy's filling station at Seventh and Central Avenue.

He enlisted in Indianapolis, Indiana on 26 October 1943 and was sent overseas since April 1944.

He took part in invasions in Africa, Italy and southern France.

He wrote a letter to his home, dated 28 December in which he stated he had recovered from an infection in his hand and had been hospitalized in France since 16 September, but was awaiting call to report to his outfit.
