S/Sgt William R. Powell was a waiter before he enlisted in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on 19 January 1943.

Multiple bombers were shot down by German fighters on the return flight, including this airplane. It went down at about 13:15 hrs.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.
