1st Lt James O. Mc Mullin graduated from Buchtel High School and Akron University.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Cleveland, Ohio on 30 March 1942.

Eyewitnesses saw the plane going into a steep glide while burning. Nine parachutes were seen.

According to Wolfe, the pilot ordered the crew to bail out while he stayed at the controls because the automatic pilot had been shot out. Then the pilot was badly shot up by 20mm shell fragments and 30 caliber MG fire and was slumped over in his seat, bleeding badly.

Nine crew members survived and were taken prisoner, only 1st Lt Mc Mullin was killed.

Lt James O. Mc Mullin is remembered at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville, Medina County, Ohio with a memorial marker.
