1st Lt Albert J. Contra attended the Chemical Engineering School at New Your University for two years. He was a laboratory assistant American Cyanamid Company when he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in New York City, New York on 15 October 1942.

The airplane was rammed by a BF 109, flown by Uffz. Heinrich Rosner of Sonderkommando Elbe.

Two crew members survived and were taken prisoner, eight were killed.
