More information
My position on the crew at the time of the accident was left-waist. Due to this fact. I witnessed the enemy fighter approaching us around the number three plane in the formation. This plane collided with us at approximately the number four bulkhead on the left hand side of the plane. The most notable "Elbe" pilot was Unteroffizer Heinrich Rosner of III/JG.102, who brought down two B-24's of the 389th Bomb Group. He rammed the B-24 "Palace of Dallas" flown by the group commander Colonel John B. Herboth which collided with the B-24 led by the deputy group commander Major Tolleson. As both bombers went down, Rosner managed to bail out.
1st Lt Bob C. Dallas was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Ardennes, Belgium Block K, Row 11, Grave 271.
