Staff Sgt Green enlisted on 1 March 1943 and received his basic training at Miami Beach, Florida. He graduated in Airplane Mechanics At Keesler Field and was sent to Harlingen, Texas, where he completed a course in gunnery. From there he went to Salt Lake City, Utah and then to Colorado from where he was sent to Westover Field, Mass. for his combat training.

He was sent overseas on April 28th, and on June 6 he entered combat service, taking part in the Invasion. He was stationed in England and has been sent on missions over both Germany and France. On June 11 he was awarded his Air Medal and three weeks later he was awarded two Oak Leaf Clusters.

42-95184 was hit by flak in Bomb-bay just over target at 1329. Aircraft immediately caught fire, turned over on its back, and dove straight down completely enveloped in flames. Two to five chutes were seen to come out of aircraft before it turred over.
