T/Sgt Joseph W. Wood died in a German prison Camp on August 24, 1944 according to word received by his mother Mrs. Mary K. Wood. Sergeant Wood was first reported Missing in Action on August 5, 1944.42-95184 was hit by flak in bomb bay just over target at 1329. Aircraft immediately caught fire, turned over on its back, and dove straight down completely enveloped in flames. Two to five chutes were seen to come out of aircraft before it turned over
