Pfc Wayne R. De leeuw enlisted at Fort Douglas, Utah on 9 June 1943.

He graduated from Wayne High School in 1937.

After his study he worked on a farm. He was an avid horse rider. His wage he spared to pay for a two-year mission for the Mormon Church in Santa Rosa, California. Shortly after the end of this mission, he was called up for military service. He trained at Camp Roberts, California and Camp Lenord Wood, Missouri. He served in the HQ Battery of the 754the Field Artillery Battalion and went overseas in June 1944 serving as a driver of an ammunition truck until January 1945, when he was transferred to the infantry. Wayne De Leeuw served in Belgium, France, Holland and Germany.

Pfc De Leeuw was killed when he tried to save a comrade.
