S/Sgt Charles E. Romig graduated from South Hills High School and attended Wooster College.

He enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 22 February 1943. He was sent overseas in August 1944.

He was reported wounded in action in October 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart medal a first time. He had just rejoined his unit on 30 March.
