Pfc Don S. Berry attended Corning High School for 2 years but due to hs father's failing health he was unable to finish and started to work on the family farm.After his parents passed away he volunteered for the U.S. Army at Fort Des Moines, Iowa on 10 July 1942.
He was part of an eight men boat crew that attempted to establish a bridgehaed across the Moselle river. Due to heavy enemy fire the entire crew was killed.
