Pfc Mark A. Volonino attended Jefferson High School in Rochester where he was concert master of the Jefferson High Orchestra. He was employed by J. Cunningham & Son Company.

He enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 10 February 1944 and was sent overseas in November 1944.
