2nd Lt Donald P. Jamieson graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn in 1942 and was an errand boy. He enlisted in New York City, New York on 26 February 1943.

His father was born in Halifax, Canada and his mother in Kamsu, China. They were married on 7 October 1919 in Szechuan, China. Robert was born in China. The family first moved to Vancouver, Canada and from there they entered the United States on 2 November 1924.
