More information

T/4 Anthony J. Nicholson enlisted in Phoenix, Arizona on 10 October 1942. He received his basic training at Camp Barkley, Texas and was assigned to his unit at Camp Buckner, North Carolina before going overseas.

He graduated from Bisbee High School and was a miner and mining-machine operator by the Shattuck and Denn Mines before he enlisted.

T/4 Nicholson was a Medic and was trying to get to the wounded when he stepped on a mine and was killed. The complete citation is as follows:
"For meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy on 13 December 1944. Acting as medical aid man, T/4 Nicholson under incessant enemy fire performed bravely and courageously in aiding the wounded. With utter disregard for his personal safety, he entered a mine field to administer aid to a casualty only to be injured himself by an exploding mine and later killed by enemy artillery. T/4 Nicholson's disregard for his personal safety in the performance of meritorious service is in accordance with the highest military traditions."

He was first buried at Block RRR, Row 8, Grave 143.
