T/4 Harry T. Pelfrey entered the service in Indianapolis, Indiana on 2 September 1942.A graduate of Helmsburg High School, he attended Central Normal College and Indiana University extension school, and was employed at the Schwitzer-Cummins Company in Indianapolis before his induction. He was an active member of Mars Hill Free Methodist Church and helped organize Scout troop No. 114 in Mars Hill. T/4 Pelfrey received his training at Camp Lee, Va. He was stationed in Iceland for 17 months before being sent to Europe on July 31, 1944.
