Pfc Dave Schwartzkopf worked on the family farm before he joined the National Guard on 16 September 1940.

He had been seriously wounded on 12 September in France and his death occurred two days later.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Saint-Juan, France.

Pfc Schwartzkopf is remembered at Lakeview Cemetery in Windsor, Weld County, Colorado with a memorial marker.
