1st Lt Earl B. Railsback graduated from Whittier High School in 1936 and worked on a farm before he enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 24 January 1941.A memorial plaque honoring Lt Railsback and his comrades was erected at Saint-Pient church, Housseras. It reads: "In appreciation of Lieutenant Earl B. Railsbak and his comrades of the 157th Infantry Regiment of the 45th US Division. Fallen for our liberation from the Nazi occupation on 25 October 1944."
