Robert T. Collins was a graduate of New Brunswick High School and worked at the DuPont plant.

He enlisted on 20 April 1943 in Newark, New Jersey and received his training in the Army Air Corps. He was doing M.P. duty in Greensboro, North Carolina, when, at his own request, he was transferred to the infantry in August 1944.

He was officially decleared one day and one year after his was reported missing in action.
