More information

Pfc Lloyd Whiteaker worked on a farm before he enlisted in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on 5 October 1943.
His Bronze Star Medal was awarded posthumously for actions on 8 February 1945 in the vicinity of Hollnich, Germany. The citation reads, "From a dug in machine gun position on a hill overlooking the town, Private First Class Whiteaker provided covering fire for rifle companies attacking hostile positions within the town. Though he was subjected to heavy artillery and machine gun fire from a tank, he remained at his post and placed effective fire upon the enemy which enabled the infantrymen to advance and capture their objective.
