More information

S/Sgt Trimbell D. Lawrence enlisted at Fort Sill, Comanche County, Oklahoma on 17 March 1942.

He obtained a grammar school education and then went to work on the family farm.

On 12/14/1944, while leading a combat patrol near Pachten, Saarland, Germany, Trimbell was killed in action. Trimbell was killed the same day as the action that garnered him his second Silver Star Medal. The unit's Morning Report shows him as being "Missing in Action" that day, but on March 4th, the unit Morning Report shows his status was changed from MIA to Killed in Action (KIA). It would appear that his body must have been found after two months.

While leading his men in an attack, Staff Sergeant Lawrence (encountered) four enemy attempting to gain entrance to a pillbox recently taken by the company. At risk of his own life he advanced down a trench and reached a point from which he threw a hand grenade and then charged through heavy fire and captured the remaining three enemy. His gallantry disorganized the enemy.

S/Sgt Trimbell D. Lawrence is remembered at Kiowa Cemetery in Oklahoma.

He was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery St. Avold, France Block SSS, Row 2, Grave 14.
