1st Lt Virgil V. Bryant attended high school for 4 years and was a waiter.

He joined the Regular Army at Camp Barkeley, Texas on 28 March 1941.

He was wounded by shrapnel on 22 July 1944 in Periers, France which earned him his first Purple Heart.
