Pfc Harry D. Ordelt attended high school for four years and was employed at the Oliver Iron and Steel Company.

He enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 17 March 1943.

He was reported wounded in action in France in November 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.
