T/Sgt Francis E. Chapman graduated from Arizona State College and was a teacher.

He was an outstanding player on Lumberjack football teams of the mid-30's. He played in the Lumberjack varsity backfield from 1935 to 1937. Prior to that time he was a standout performer for the Phoenix Indian School Eleven.

He joined the National Gurad on 16 September 1940 and served in Panama following the outbreak of war. He returned to the United States in May 1943. He was sent overseas in November 1944.
