More information

S/Sgt Marvin H. Kross graduated from Brown High School and was employed by the Republic Steel Corp. as a machine operator.

He enlisted on 9 January 1943.

The Chaplain of his regiment, Capt Jasper C. Massage wrote in a letter to his parents about the circumstances of their son's death. His unit was ordered to cross the Sauer river under intense artillery, mortar and machine gun fire. The boat to which S/Sgt Kross was assignes capsized midstream after being hit by mortar fire. As soon as the turmoil of battle ceased at the river, a thorough search was made. The bodies of the other men in the boat who were killed were found, but S/Sgt Marvin's was not. Also an searche of the surrounding countryside was without result.
