T/Sgt John J. Timko graduated from Forest City High School ans was employed at the Middletown Air Depot.

He was married to irginia Isabella Doyle on 2 May 1942.

He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 7 May 1942 and was sent overseas on 4 April 1943.

His son was 18 months old at the time of his father's death.

After having left the target, Kiel, Germany, flightnumber 42-30118 crashed into the Kiel Bay (Baltic Sea) with the loss of all onboard. It is unclear if this was due to flak or enemy fighters.

It is also believed that the aircraft of T/Sgt John J. Timko collided in midair with "colleague", flightnumber 42-29763.
