More information

George W. Ross Jr. attended college.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Richmond, Virginia on 19 August 1943. He was overseas for only two months when he was killed.

The airplane was attacked by enemy fighters and exploded. Three crew members were killed. They were initially buried at the community cemetery of Dinteloord.

Seven men survived and were taken prisoner.

Lt Ross didn“t bail out. He had no parachute on and was still firing his machineguns in the nose turret. When the co-pilot was hit, the pilot called for help. Lt Ross asked if he was needed. As the airplane started to spin a crew member saw him fall from his seat.
