Sgt Gene C. Powell volunteered for the US Army in Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 17 January 1942.

2nd Lt Thomas C.S. Houser:
This aircraft left formation shortly after leaving the target area on route out. Believed to have been damaged by flak in target area, which was intense and accurate.

Sgt Powell bailed out near Herzberg. His chute did not open.
