2nd Lt James D. Sowry graduated from Troy High School in the class of 1934. He was engaged in the plaster contracting business with his brother, Dallas.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States on 3 April 1942.

The aircraft was seen with #1 and #4 engines out, with black smoke pouring out. Wheels were down and bombs were believed to be dropped. The left wing drooped off. A/C was believed to blow up and disintegrate.
