More information

A native of Logan he was graduated from Logan high school in 1943 and enlisted in the airforces in November 20, 1943. He was assigned overseas in September.
At approximately (50/55N-11/55E) 12 minutes before the briefed I.P. was reached, enemy aircraft made sudden attacks on the Group of which this aircraft was a member. The Squadron in which this aircraft was flying bore the brunt of the attacks. About 50 to 60 S/E and T/E enemy aircraft comprised the attacking force. They were mostly FW-190´s although a few ME-109´s and ME-210´s were observed. The attacks lasted for about 10 minutes and there were friendly fighters present, but not in sufficient numbers to give adequate protection. This aircraft was last seen going down in the vicinity of the I.P. It is believed that all of the crew bailed out, as chutes were observed near this aircraft when last sighted, however, other aircraft were going down in the same vicinity and due to extreme battle conditions at this time, positive identification of chutes could not be made. No further information regarding this crew is known.
The entire tail of this aircraft was shot off and plane flipped over out of control.
Donald was initially buried at Lossa Cemetery, district Eckartsberga on 10 October 1944.
