1st Lt Charles E. Berry attended college and worked in a refinery.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Dallas, Texas on 4 June 1942.

The airplane was hit by flak in one of the right wing tanks. The wing was on fire instantly. The plane rolled off to the right and went into a dive. At an altitude of about 18.000 feet the plane broke in two at the ball turret.

Three crew members survived and were taken prisoner. Eight men were killed. They were initially buried at the cemetery of Odenthal.

Lt Berry is remembered at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas with a memorial marker.
