1st Lt Gerald R. Haywood Jr. graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He worked for the Union National Bank.

The aircraft was shot down by a fighter and crashed at 1400 hours.

Four crew members survived and were taken prisoner, six men were killed. they were intially buried at the cemetery of Parsau, Germany.
