Pvt John A. Torres attended high school for two years and was a cook before he enlisted in New York City, New York on 2 April 1943.

He died in a hospital to the effects of artillery shell fragments in his thigh.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
