More information

S/Sgt Louis H. Estrada graduated from Gallup High School with the class of 1939 and was employed at the Santa Fe railroad.

He enlisted in Santa Fé, New Mexico on 22 January 1941. He already had served in north Africa and Sicily.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal. He citation cited: On Nov. 20, 1944, Sgt Estrada's armored infantry regiment made an attack northeast of Puffendorf, during which five enemy riflemen in foxholes were by-passed, one American being left behind to take care of them. The American's rifle jammed and the enemy snipers were harrassing the troops in the rear. Sgt Estrada crawled back 150 yards without cover and killed one of the enemy with rifle fire, causing the others to surrender.
