Ivan Ricks graduated from Cadiz High School and teached at the Kentucky State Teachers College at Bowling Green for two years, where he started training in the ROTS program. He was employed with the Dan Metzler Men“s clothing store for three years.He enlisted on 21 January 1943 at Fort Benjamin Harrison and was sent to North Africa. He also participated in the invasion of Sicily and served in France, Holland and Belgium.
Suffering from an illness, he was hospitalized in Belgium and then in England but was able to rejoin his unit in Belgium before the winter.
He is remembered at the East End Cemetery in Cadiz, Kentucky.
Note: In the ABMC database, the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment is incorrectly listed as the 41st Infantry Battalion.
