Pvt John R. Ter Linden attended high school for 4 years and was employed by the Union County Mosquito Extermination Commission.He enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 31 July 1944 and trained at Fort Dix and Fort McClellan, Alabama. He spent a 10-day furlough at his home in December and upon returning from his furlough, he was sent to Fort Meade, Maryland. He was sent overseas in mid-January, arriving late that month in Northern France.
