More information

Pfc James A. Fernandes enlisted in Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, California on 29 May 1944.

Pfc Joseph R. Mizer and his best friend James Fernandes were in a big fight with the full squad, in front of the edge of the village. The full squad had great cover and killed a lot of German soldiers. That evening after surviving the big fight, they were digging foxholes when an American artillery shell from came in to low. The shell hit the top of the trees and rained down on them killing Fernandes instantly by friendly fire.

This story was told by the son of Joseph Mizer, Jeff Mizer to Rob Crutzen, who provided us with it.
