S/Sgt John Sarafian attended high school for 2 years and was employed at Vulcan Photo Engraving Company.

He enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 12 March 1942.

On 14 February 1945 a counterattack consisting of 150 men armed with bazookas, machine guns and mortars was directed towards Prüm from the north. This attack started at 0700 when the striking force crossed the Prüm river and advanced south parallel to the Prüm river. The mission of this force was to recapture the eastern part of Prüm and establish a bridgehead there.
The attack was repulsed with no loss of ground. During this action S/Sgt Safarian was wounded and died a day later.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.
