S/Sgt Charles H. Matthews had been in the army since October 1939 and has been overseas since January 1944. He was first in England and went to France D-Day. He was wounded in France 15 July 1944 and spent a month in a hospital in England. After recovering from his wounds he rejoined his company and was at the front until his death on Thanksgiving Day.
