S/Sgt Miller attended Carrick High School and was employed by the Gulf Refining Co.He enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 23 April 1942 and graduated at Harlignen Army Gunnery School in Texas where he received his silver gunner's wings and were he was promoted to sergeant.
The 'Lady Liberty' s/n 42-29807 was originally assigned to the 334th Bomber Squadron, 95th Bomber Group, Heavy and named 'Patsy Ann III'.
The airplane was hit by flak that caused to break the fuselage in two just behind the radio room.
Two crew members survived and were taken prisoner, eight were killed.
S/Sgt Miller fell without his parachute from his gun turret and has remained missing ever since.
