T/Sgt Roland L. Courcy volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Springfield, Massachusetts on 26 October 1942. He worked in a metal factory before he joined the army.

The plane got a direct hit from flak. Seven crew members were killed, three were taken prisoner.

T/Sgt Courcy was initially buried at the Garrison Cemetery in Kiel on 25 May 1944.
