1st Lt Alden T. Mann attended Sewanee Military Academy and Emory University.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United Sates at Fort McPherson, Georgia on 16 December 1941.

The mission took place on 15 May 1943. On the way to the target the aircraft became disabled by emeny fighters over the North Sea and crashed. Six crew members were killed in the airplane or in the crash, four men were rescued by fishermen and taken prisoner.

Lt Alden T. Mann died in a hospital in Schleswig one week later from severe burns.
