Arthur Bird was a chauffeur before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 9 April 1942.

The airplane was shot down by Hauptmann Wilhelm-Ferdinand Galland of II./JG 26.

Two crew members were killed, seven men survived and were taken prisoner.
