Pvt Wayne F. Carner graduated from Reynolds High School in 1933 and attended Mountain Park Junior College in Elkin. He was employed at Minette Mill.

He enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland on 20 December 1943. The Bronze Medal was received for bravery in exposing himself to enemy fire that his platoon might locate a sniper.

Pvt Carner was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Grand Failly, France.
