More information

Sgt Richard P. Mc Mahon graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1942 where he was a star player on the football team and was head of the track squad.

He enlisted in April 1943 and was selected for the ASTP program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When the program was disbanded, he was sent to Camp Forest, Tennessee, where he joined the paratroopers.

Sgt. Mc Mahon's glider had landed safely but a fellow soldier was wounded. When Sgt Mc Mahon called over to him, he was shot by a tank. He was sent to a field hospital but three days later died of an embolism.
