Alonzo Greene was an automobile serviceman when he enlisted in Denver, Colorado on 5 April 1943. He met Ida Mae McCoy during his training in Georgia and married her on 7 February 1944, when he was 19. Ida was 18.On 24 March 1945 he was a passenger in glider # 43-41175. When it reached the drop zone, they encountered smoke and could hardly see the ground. After releasing from the tow plane, it made a 90 degree turn to the left. Theyencountered flak and small arms fire at 200 to 300 feet. After another left turn,it was the last time that anyone saw the glider.
