More information

Pvt Leo P. Marceau enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 31 January 1944.

Statement from Frederick S. Morton, III, 1st Lt., 194th Glider Inf.:
"My glider landed some four miles NE of GLZ-S on 24 March 1945. The tow rope was cut by flak and the glider was hit by flak prior to landing. The glider was landed without being wrecked. All personnel got out of the glider onto the ground. Immediately upon landing, we were subjected to small arms fire and 20 mm fire from two flak positions. In attempting to crawl from the glider, I was the only one who apparently came away without injury. It was my impression, as I crawled away, that the other personnel had been hit and appeared to be dead. This impression was based on the fact that, when less than forty feet from the glider, I could receive no answer from the other personnel when I tried to call them. One of the men was about twenty feet from the glider and the others were under the glider. Being engaged in a fire fight myself, I was driven from the area and was unable to return and determine the condition of the other men."
