1st Lt Frank Fusco joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Providence, Rhode Island on 8 July 1942.S/Sgt Edward J. Gallagher:
Aircraft B-17G 43-37624, was flying on our right wing. I first noticed him in trouble at the I.P. just after the first wave of enemy fighters had struck. His No. 3 engine was on fire. He loss altitude and appeared to be slipping the ship to the right in an attempt to put out the fire. After he dropped some 3000 feet I noted 2 parachutes leave the aircraft. We were then engaged by another wave of fighters and I lost track of subject aircraft.
