T/Sgt Jewel C. Maddox enlisted in the Army at Fort Oglethorpe, GA on August 18, 1942 with Gunnery Training at Amarillo, Texas where his specialty was .50 caliber machine guns.A/C 42-97246 was attacked by enemy fighters over target. Two men were killed by enemy fire. Five crew members bailed out and survived. The remaining three crew members, including T/Sgt Jewel Maddox were killed in the crash. The MACR indicates that T/Sgt Maddox was initially interred at the Ehrenfriedhof Osterholz in Bremen.
